Heart and Soul

Have you ever been terrified of being happy? I know this is a weird question to ask. Currently, it's way too early in the morning and there are tears filling my eyes as I write this. Why? It's not of sadness. Fear isn't the right word… I can't pin the emotion. I'm at this place right now where I am balancing playing it cool and putting my heart right there in the open. This balancing act is not my strong suit.  So I turn to music.

Tonight, I tried something I've never done before. I listened and I wrote. I wrote exactly what I heard (I had to pause and replay a few times…damn you slow fingers!!) And then I read what I wrote.

Although I know I connect with music and lyrics in a specific way, this process made this song by Mumford and Sons all the more meaningful.

So please read. Savor. And feel, if you wish. I'm feeling highly emotional right now… so if you care to join...
Let's do this:

Listen HERE

And after the storm,
I run and run as the rains come.
and I look up, I look up.
on my knees and out of luck,
I look up.

Night has always pushed up day.
You must know life to see decay,
But I won't rot, I won't rot.
Not this mind and not this heart,
I won't rot.

And I took you by the hand
And we stood tall,
And  remembered our own land,
what we lived for.
And there will come a time you'll see, with no more tears
and love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there.
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

Love Love.

Hard Way Home

You know those songs that just get right into the cracks of your heart? On a recent trip to Seattle, I did a little reflecting. You know... life, love... that kind of thing.

What I came up with is this:

I always seem to take the hard way. The untraveled path, if you will.
I like taking risks and sometimes they really pay off.
Sometimes not so much.

But this little blog has definitely paid off.
My new camera has paid off.
Love? Well... I'm still taking risks.
So I'll keep you posted on that one.

For now, Listen to THIS song and think of me. Please.
Have the best weekend possible. I mean it!

Hard Way Home- Brandi Carlile
I sometimes lose my faith in luck
I don't know what I want to be when I grow up

I just count the rain
Wearing the floor through the boards again
I wish I could find a soul to steal
I could be the engine, you could be the wheel
When we're driving home, I never have to worry about being alone

Photobucket

Oooh, follow my tracks
See all the times I should have turned back
Oooh, I wept alone
I know what it means to be on my own
Oooh, the things I have known

Photobucket
Looks like I'm taking the hard way home
Oooh, the seeds I've sown
Taking the hard way home

I'll Bring the Music.

Don't you agree?
Today is also a good day to play awesome music.
So... this is what I am bringing you.

An hour playlist to make your little heart flutter.
I find my self channeling my inner Celine Dion when these songs come on.
Take an hour, take a drive and enjoy this little ditty.

Ummm... have I really listened to that song 1,305 times?!
That is semi-disturbing.

Happy Tuesday!

A Few Tunes

For your enjoyment I am filling you in on some of my most favorite songs from this trip:

I have been on a country kick lately.

One of my most favorites is by Canaan Smith- We Got Us
Such a sweet and simple little love story

Molly and I have been talking a lot about the past and about songs that remind us of certain people, places or events in our life

A great memory that came up was our roadtrip back from Utah when we were 17.
The radio and cd player in the car was broken so we used her dad's credit card(for emergencies only)
to buy a boombox and an Ashlee Simpson CD.
We played that cd for 6 hrs straight.
It was terribly awesome (Or the other way around).

I love how music can bring us back.

Do you have songs or a band that do that for you?
What is your greatest memory attached with music?

Insert awkward picture.

Off to St. Augustine today!

P.S. Thanks to Michelle @ Michabella's Cupcakery for suggesting Sweet! They were delish
If they are mini cupcakes it doesn't  reeeeally count as a dozen, right?

Songs I Sing

Today is Friday. You know what that means. You can't take anything too seriously on Friday.
It's a rule.
At least on my blog, it is.

So here's what you need to do:
a. Get ready to giggle
(It's totally acceptable if the giggling is at me. I actually encourage it)
b. Try not to dance with me at the end of the video. I dare you
c. Do your own happy dance, it's FRIDAY!

What are your weekend plans?
I am counting down the days until Florida!

Countdown

So much change in one year.

Photography has become such an important aspect of my life this past year and my main passion. Since purchasing my cannon my blog has gained SO many new followers. It has really changed the experience you have when you look at my site and I think I have finally found the perfect way to express myself.

Here's a journey through some of my outfit posts this year. The difference in quality is actually comical.

For 2012 I have a few goals. Number One on my list is simply:
Be On Time.
For some reason I find myself showing up to everything 2-7 minutes late. It's just plain rude and there is really no excuse besides poor planning. So yeah. I will not be late in my life. That's a promise. Being on time is just a small step in accomplishing the other goals I have in mind, mostly having to do with photography.

I will continue to work hard, learn at every opportunity and love without bounds. I have found my happy place in life. I've found it within myself which has been the hardest journey, but SO rewarding.
I'm grateful for the the love and support I have had through this year.
I've lost friends, made new friends and rekindled a great friendship that was put on hold.
This year has been phenomenal.

Thank you, friends, for sticking around and continually writing the sweetest comments that have the power to brighten the darkest of days. You are just as much apart of this blog as I am, so thank you for your love! I wish you great happiness in all you do and the best of luck with your resolutions.

In closing here is Zooey. I'm slightly obsessed with her.

Happy New Year!

Weekend Rundown

Ohhh boy, this girl fell asleep on her couch last night. Shoes and scarf still on.
No. I was not drunk (I wish!) just exhausted!

Needless to say I am looking forward to my ONLY day off this week.

Hell yes, I made the kissy face. That one is for Doug. The potential love of my life. *
Yes, he gave me a side hug and the sparks flew.
Think I'm reading too much into it?

Here is a little song to get your Monday going!

Totally catchy, but kind of sad!

Tell me about your weekend!
Did you pour one out for your homies?
Do tell.

*Want to know more about Doug? Me too... unfortunately he left right in the middle of our flirt session. No closure, I tell ya.

Happy Friday Loves!

I am looking forward to a quiet weekend at home putting some major hours in with some web design and trying to get my name out there for photography! Wish me luck!

Sunday I will be seeing this beauty of a voice

Just something sweet to send you into the weekend! See you Monday!

Ursher.

Yesterday's post got me in the mood for some Ursher. So I started listening to some old tracks and came up with this little diddy.

Thanks for watching!
Happy Wednesday!

Musings in Music

I'm going to take you on a little tour through my iTunes. This is something very special, near and dear to my heart, if you will. Music is kind of everything to me. And when I say kind of, well I guess I mean kind of. Of course I have other loves in life, but I do believe music was one of my firsts. Let's start from the beginning:

I had the biggest crush on Billy Ray Cyrus. Embarrassing? No way. I loved his mullet and ripped jeans and my grandma would always tease me saying, "If I ever meet him, I'm going to sew up those holes in his pants." I was a little obsessed with Achey Breaky Heart. Next,

In the third grade I was in the talent show. I line danced to Be My Baby Tonight- John Michael Montgomery (By myself). For the finale, I did the splits... real show stopper. Next,

In the sixth grade, I sang Graduation (Friends Forever)- Vitamin C. Let me tell you, the whole crowd was in tears! And then proceeded to cry for the rest of the day. Except for Molly, of course... she was always one tough cookie. She just laughed at us for looking like big babies.

Long story short I have always loved music. I listen to almost anything. I love oldies, country, 80s rock, acoustic anything, top 40s... you name it! Here is what I've been listening to lately:

Country:
Crazy Girl- Eli Young Band
Without You- Keith Urban
I'd Love to be Your Last- Gretchen Wilson

Rap/ Hip Hop:
Power- Kanye West
The Show Goes On- Lupe Fiasco
Triple Double- Girl Talk (mashup)

Everything Else:
Hello- Martin Solveig & Gragonette
Pyro- Kings of Leon
E.T.- Katy Perry
Rivers and Roads- The Head and The Heart (thanks, BP!)
If You Ever Come Back- The Script

So there you have it! Do you have have a favorite song or band you think I should check out? I love getting new music!

Fool'd

Don't worry, it's not one of those videos that has a nice scenic view and then something ultra ugly and scary pops out of no where.

It's worse.

Happy Friday!

Adele Loves Gonzaga.

Just a lil Somethin Somethin...
Trust me, I in-no-way-shape-or-form try to compare myself to Adele.
 She is freakin fantastic.
And me? Well, I just like to hold a guitar and pretend that I know what I'm doing.

P.s. How about those Zags?!! Up against 6 seed St. John's..who said we wouldn't pull through! Hope you had faith on your bracket!

What's it gonna take?

Getting to the gym has proven to be a little more difficult than I expected. Although I have plenty of time to actually make it there...for some reason I always opt out. I think I know what could make my trip to the gym a little more interesting...

Orange Mocha Frappachino!!

Okay, now that was a joke... but maybe some fresh new gear would help motivate me?

Beautiful and practical.

Of course I need more yoga pants and zip ups!

Not to mention one of the best motivators... EVER

Country Strong

I saw Country Strong this weekend and was happy to find this song on the soundtrack. I am in love. The movie was pretty good, too!

If My Heart Could Write Songs.

Situation: Stuck on a couch for a few days. You have a computer, television and the world at your fingertips. What'll it be? Watch Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Homework? No.. no. New Music Time! It's been months since I have actually made a significant addition to my library. My playlists have been on the same rotation for far too long. I wanted to make a playlist for a friend who doesn't like country music. Ask anyone who knows me and you would know that country music probably consumes 87%  of my life. So I decided this would be a great opportunity to not only pick out those essential country songs to ease him in, but to also expand my range in music. So Ben, I hope you like your random, crazy compilation of music! The one thing I hope you take away from it: Not all country music is about trucks, dogs, and beer.

Back to the Music:

Radioactive- Kings of Leon
The Show Goes On- Lupe Fiasco
Gimme Dat- Ciara
To Be Young- Ryan Adams
Windows Are Rolled Down- Amos Lee
Listen To Your Love- MONA
Colours- Grouplove
Radar Detector- Darwin Deez

Crown on the Ground-Sleigh Bells
